Welcome to the 57th episode of The Couples Expert Podcast: Balance Your Life; Balance Your Relationship
Hormones, secreted by our endocrine glands, are chemical messengers that travel through the bloodstream to various organs and tissues, essentially telling them what to do. Although most of us know, in general terms, that hormones affect the body’s growth and development, control our metabolism, and even manage the levels of other chemicals in our bodies, we most often don’t associate them with emotions, mood, and sex.
According to the Merriam-Webster’s medical dictionary…
Estrogen is any of various natural steroids that stimulate the development of female secondary sex characteristics and promote the growth and maintenance of the female reproductive system.
Progesterone is a female steroid sex hormone that is secreted to prepare the endometrium for implantation and later by the placenta during pregnancy to prevent rejection of the developing embryo or fetus.
Testosterone is a hormone that is produced especially by the testes and that is responsible for inducing and maintaining male secondary sex characters.
While their clinical definitions may sound a bit daunting, the effects that an imbalance of these hormones can have on our lives is very real and down-to-earth. Join Stuart and Dr. John A. Robinson as they explore these effects on our physical and emotional relationships, and the benefits that naturopathic hormone replacement therapy can safely bring to correct them.
